Top 10 Questions Asked at a WorkSource Center
10. What do you do here? WorkSource Northwest, Washington State’s "one-stop" Career Center offers services to businesses and job seekers .
Services to businesses include: business assessment, restructuring or closure information & referral, access to employee training & retraining, job listings, labor market and wage information, applicant referral, and access to WorkSource facilities.
Services to job seekers include: job search and career exploration assistance, information on skills, training and education occupations. We have a resource center with computers, internet access, copier, fax, phones and workshops.
9. How do I find a job? Visit Job Searching Resources Statistics indicate using more than one job search strategy leads to success. Network with friends, family and coworkers since 70% of job openings are not advertised. Visit places you would like to work to find out what they need. Participate in Job Fairs. Check out www.go2worksource.com to view job openings and review newspaper classifieds.
8. How can I make a resume? Visit Job Searching Resources and go to Resumes & Applications WorkSource offers workshops, computer software, books and handouts to help you design your resume. Resource Specialists and Workshop Facilitators are also available to critique your resume and provide feedback.
7. How do I post a resume online? Visit Job Searching Resources and go to Resumes & Applications Post your resume on www.go2worksource.com by following the instructions on the website or using the “Posting Your Resume Online” handout.
6. Can I email my resume? Visit Job Searching Resources and go to Resumes & Applications YES! Resumes, cover letters and other documents can be emailed. If an employer provides instructions on how or what to send via email, be sure to follow their directions.
5. How do I get an email address? Visit Job Searching Resources and go to Job Searching You must sign-up with an email provider (on the Internet) for free email. Some of the most common providers are www.yahoo.com, www.hotmail.com, www.gmail.com, and www.aol.com. Check your address at least a few times a week if you are using it for job search. You must remember your email address and password and become familiar with how your email features work.
4. I heard you can pay for training/school. Is that true? How can I get financial aid for school? Visit Education & Training and go to Orientations Attend the Workforce Resources Orientation offered on a rotating schedule. You will receive information about the employment and training programs available and how to qualify. For Federal financial aid complete the FAFSA application, either online or use the paper version.
3. What is a cover letter for? Do I have to use one? Visit Job Searching and go to Cover Letters A cover letter personalizes your application packet revealing information specific to the job you are applying for. Include a cover letter anytime an application packet or resume is mailed to an employer and when you want to make a good impression. It may not be necessary to use a cover letter for entry level jobs, first time jobs or when an employer asks specifically for an application or resume only.
