What is It?
Employee leasing is a service that provides people to specific work sites and is responsible for the employee’s salary. In most situations, the service provider is the employer of record. Employment may be fulltime or part-time, temporary or permanent, and on-call.
 
Temporary placement is a service that provides people to work on a temporary basis. Temporary employment may be short-term or long-term, fulltime or par-time, depending on the needs of the employer.

Providers may have specific eligibility requirements and expectations.

Employee leasing and temporary placement services have an employer fee. There may be a fee to the employee for temporary placement services.

What is It?
Assistance is available to employers for employee training. This training may include developing and delivering a specific training program based on employer needs or referring the employer to a vendor who conducts the employee training.

Staff from the WorkSource Columbia Basin Business Services Unit can assist you to determine what best fits your known needs.
 
Additional assistance is available to determine skill sets associated with the jobs held by employees.

What is It?
Assistance is available to employers for recruiting new employees.   Employers may place their own job postings on the Website www.go2worksource.com, or WorkSource Columbia Basin can post them for the employer. When WorkSource Columbia Basin is actively involved in the recruitment process, candidates are selected for referral based on the employer’s expectations of employee skills, education/training, and work experience. WorkSource Columbia Basin also offers enhanced services: assistance with assessments, provision of assessments, interview scheduling, and rooms for interviewing and training.
 
Who Can Participate?
Employers must be licensed to do business in the state of Washington and have current job openings. The development of potential employee lists and union strike replacement employees are prohibited.
 
How Much Does it Cost?
There is no fee to the employer or potential employees for this service. There may be a fee for assessments.

What is It?
Job and Vocational training includes the opportunity to improve or learn new job skills. This may be in a classroom or on the job, paid or not paid. This service is targeted for people in the community who are seeking work in a specific field. Services include referral and/or placement into a job.

Training services may include:
• Placement into a temporary subsidized job
• A full time or part-time position
• An apprenticeship position
• Or a volunteer position.

Job and Vocational training services may involve classroom training, technical skills training, on-the-job training, business plan development, job shadow, work experience, or volunteer work. These services may be in settings such as public organizations or private businesses. The goal of job and vocational training is to help a person get a job by providing employability skills improvement as well as work history.

Job training services may have eligibility requirements, qualifications, and selection procedures, depending on the provider.

The service is free and only available to those who meet the eligibility requirements.

Learning Disabilities Testing Top of page

Learning Disabilities Testing

What is It?
If you have difficulty with learning, you have the right to request testing to identify your academic needs.

Columbia Basin Community College coordinates tests and provides a diagnosis of the level of academic adjustments appropriate for students.

If you believe your learning disabilities prevent you from getting or keeping a job, testing/evaluation is provided through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to identify your needs. This may be provided after an application for services has been made.

Learning disabilities testing services may have eligibility requirements, depending on the provider.

To receive disabilities testing from Columbia Basin Community College, you must be participating in a Columbia Basin Community College program. This includes off-campus service sites.

What is It?
Adding and training new employees is expensive, time consuming and can be critical to the profitability of a business. Often, businesses pass up applicants with potential that lack a specific skill required for the workplace. To help offset additional costs of training these potential employees WorkSource Columbia Basin offers On-the-Job Training.
 
As a trainee, you have the opportunity to learn the necessary skills and gain valuable experience while working in a particular occupation. This service is intended to lead to a regular job.
 
As an employer, you choose an employee and the specific training is customized to your needs. The employer will receive a $1,000 payment at the end of the training period. Agreements cover a two-month training period based on full-time employment (32-40 hours/week).
 
Who Can Participate?
As a trainee, On-the-Job training services have eligibility requirements and are only available to people enrolled into specific programs with WorkSource organizations that provide this service.
 
All employers can participate; however, a trainee cannot be used to supplant existing employees or paid staff positions. Employers may also apply for training money through worker retraining and/or incumbent worker grants.

There is no fee for services under WorkSource Columbia Basin.

What is It?
Small Business Services include confidential one-on-one counseling to help you learn the basics of starting a small business and preparing business/marketing plans. Seminars are available on special topics throughout the year. These programs assist business owners and managers to achieve their goals by helping them better manage, organize, and operate their businesses.

Small Business Services offered by other providers may include payroll services and benefits, employee leasing, temporary employees, and pre-employment screening.

WorkSource Columbia Basin’s Business Services Team can also create industry wage comparisons for Benton and Franklin counties’ employers.

Youth Employment Top of page

Youth Employment

What is it?
WorkSource Columbia Basin provides all youth with information on job search strategies, job referrals and resume assistance. Additionally, Youth Employment programs provide training and job opportunities for youth, usually 16 years of age and older. These programs have eligibility criteria. 
 
Services may include:
·         Learning new skills to find a job
·         Paid work experience while you learn a new job
·         On-the-Job Training
·         Work Ethics
 
These opportunities usually include a combination of paid work experience and classroom training. The classroom experience can include classes such as reading, math and others to help you obtain a High School diploma or GED.

Job search classes and job referrals are available to all youth. Youth Employment Training Programs have certain eligibility requirements. Contact WorkSource Columbia Basin for more information.
